Description: At the dawn of the Cold War, Somalia had aligned itself with the Soviet Union; when this alliance dissolved, the United States forged a coalition with the African country. As the Cold War thawed, however, the partnership weakened and the U.S. withdrew. As infrastructure and order collapsed, famine spread through the country. When the 900 Canadian soldiers landed in Somalia on December 15, 1992, they tried to draw order from the chaos with Operation Deliverance.

Description: The Infantry Brigade Groups formed for Korea and Europe became the standard formation of the Canadian Army. By 1955 there were four Brigade Groups - three in Canada and one in Europe. People, rather than units, were rotated for service overseas. In 1970 the Brigade Group in Europe was co-located with the reduced Air Division in Lahr, Germany, and as soon as the Soviet threat disappeared in 1993 - so did the Canadian units stationed in Europe.
